Indigenous elder Aunty Ivy Booth

Indigenous elder Aunty Ivy Booth, who is the last known survivor of the old Taroom Aboriginal Settlement, met the walkers in their final few kilometres of the eight day trek. She says when she arrived in Woorabinda in 1927 she was placed in a dormitory where conditions were harsh. When she was a teenager, Aunty Ivy and a group of friends escaped and walked to Baralaba but were caught by Government officials and had their heads shaved as punishment. "We were very scared," she said.
